It's not necessary to injure your dog to get rid of its bad habit of jumping to guests. You must find a thing that your dog really dislikes- for example water gun or spray-bottle filled with water. Then, tries to let the dog associate the water gun with the command [might not do this again]. This command is telling it not to do this, or it will be punished. You must use this command as soon as the dog makes wrong behavior. And you can spray it after a few seconds.

For example: The dog pounces on people---

1. The dog starts to jump

2. Say to it [can't]

3. Spray water to the dog

4. Pay no attention to it (approximately one to two minutes)

5. Continue this process until the dog doesn't jump

6. When the dog jumps again, say [sit down] to it. If it obeys to you, give it the prize. Although the general training rule is: give it prize if the dog does correctly. In fact, if the dog associates this reward with the wrong behavior, it will create the problem. For example, the dog jumps to mother, mother says [can't] and sprays water to it, then the dog sits down obediently, and so mother gives it reward. This will lead to dog's wrongly understanding: as long as it can endure being sprayed, it will obtain master's reward. The better method is to give it praise after you completely rectify its wrong behavior.
